Maeve Ellison and Jack Nylund are this week’s Leskovar Honda Athletes of the Week.
Ellison takes home the girls’ honor after a stellar season on the NorthWestern Energy team in the Copper City Softball League’s coach pitch division.
Her coaches could tell from the start that Maeve loved softball and was determined to learn the game. They say it was so fun to see how much she improved throughout the season, becoming a better hitter and learning to throw and field the ball. She always played with a positive attitude, was a good listener, and showed great hustle. She was so fun to coach, her coaches say. They expect her love for the game to grow and grow over the years.
Nylund takes home the boys’ award after helping the CCCS/Butte Motormen team win Butte’s Senior Little League title. Nylund blasted a two-run double to spark a five-run rally as the Motormen overcame a 2-0 deficit to knock off the Knights of Columbus Athletic Club 8-4 in the championship game at 3 Legends Stadium.
Nylund, a leader for class clown honors in Butte High’s Class of 2027, also took a bases-loaded beanball for his third RBI of the championship game.
Leskovar Honda, home of the 20-year, 200,000-mile warranty, teamed up with the ButteCast to honor the finest student-athletes from the Mining City in an effort to encourage more children to get up, get out and try all kinds of sports and activities.
