If Don Peoples calls you a “Butte guy,” then you are definitely a Butte guy.

That is the case with Even Barrett. He is a Red Lodge native, but he has been a man in the middle of the fight in the Mining City since 1979.

He reluctantly came to town because his boss, Sen. John Melcher, wanted him to run a field office. Several years later, Melcher wanted Barrett to move again. However, Barrett stayed because, well, he’s Butte guy.

For more than half a century, Barrett has been a man behind so many great political leaders and policy in Butte and Montana. In addition to Melcher, he worked for U.S. Congressman Pat Williams, Gov. Brian Schweitzer and Peoples.

For 18 years, he headed up economic development in Butte. He served a three-year stint as executive director of the Montana Democratic Party, and he was as a member of the Democratic National Committee for 12 years.

Lately, Barrett has cemented his status as a Butte guy by fighting to make sure that Butte gets the Superfund cleanup that it deserves.

Listen in to this podcast as Barrett talks about some of the politicians he has worked for over the years. Listen as he talks about why we are currently at a critical crossroads in the Superfund cleanup, and listen to why he is clearly on the right side of the debate.
