Ryan Hitchcock is one of the best Butte athletes, and so many people probably never even heard of him.
That is because Ryan played hockey, and Butte has not historically been a big hockey town. While youth hockey is going strong today, it is probably still smaller in numbers than baseball, basketball, football and volleyball.
Also, players chasing the dream of playing in the NHL like Ryan don’t usually play much hockey in Butte. He went to high school in Canada so he could take his game to the next level. That led him to an outstanding career at Marian University in Wisconsin.
He played in the minor leagues before calling it a career.
Today, Ryan lives with his wife and two young children in Milwaukee. He has a successful career at an investment firm.
Listen in as Ryan talks about getting into hockey as a boy and chasing his dream. Listen how he describes the ladder up to the top of the hockey game as anything but a ladder. Listen how he already has his son and daughter on skates.
