Butte High sophomore volleyball player Cadence Graham and Butte High senior football players Sam Sampson and Colton Shea are this week’s Leskovar Honda Athletes of the Week.
Graham takes home the girls’ honor, while Sampson and Shea split the boys’ award.
Graham, Butte High’s libero, is ranked No. 1 in the Class AA with 5.65 digs per set. She leads the Bulldogs with 325 digs and 462 receptions to date. She also has 50 assists and 23 aces on the season.
Graham is in her second year playing varsity for the Bulldog volleyball team. She has been a standout for the Butte High basketball team since her eighth-grade year.
Sampson and Shea set a school record that can never be broken Friday night in Butte High’s 13-10 Senior Night loss to Helena High. Shea hit Sampson with a pass that went 99 yards for a touchdown. That is the longest play from scrimmage in the history of a Butte High football program that dates back to 1900. The pass play eclipsed the previous record of 97 yards from Dallas Cook to Tyler Earles in 2012.
Shea completed 16 of 38 passes for 248 yards against the tough Bengal defense. Sampson hauled in eight passes for 176 yards.
For the second year, Leskovar Honda, home of the 20-year, 200,000-mile warranty, is teaming up with the ButteCast to honor the finest student-athletes from the Mining City in an effort to encourage more children to get up, get out and try all kinds of sports and activities.
