Registration is now open for the 2025 Butte Copper Sprockets season.
The Copper Sprockets are Butte’s youth mountain bike team for boys and girls entering fifth through 12th grade in the fall. Practices start in the beginning of July, and the race season runs from the last weekend in August through the first week of October.
Racing is not mandatory, and scholarships are available. The team can even help you find the proper mountain bike for the season.
The team is holding a series of preseason fun rides for riders to meet the coaches and members of the team. The next ride is Sunday at Thompson Park. Another ride will follow on Sunday, June 22, also at Thompson Park.
All preseason rides begin at 6:30 p.m., and riders should bring a bike, helmet, closed-toe shoes, a water bottle and clothes to match the changing weather.
For more information, contact team director David Lutke at dlutkeaz@gmail.com or head coach Mandy Tippett at mandtip@yahoo.com. You can also visit the team’s Facebook page.
Also, the Copper Sprockets and the Highlands Cycling Club will host a youth mountain bike camp June 16-19. The camp will run from 10 a.m. to noon each day, and riders will meet at the Skyline Dog Park Monday through Wednesday that week. On that Thursday, they will meet at the Sagebrush Flats parking lot at Thompson Park.
Cost of the camp is $70 for the week or $20 for a single day. Click the link below for more information and a registration form.
