Copper City Softball player Brynn Pokorny and Butte American Legion baseball player Calvin Cunningham are this week’s Leskovar Honda Athletes of the Week.

Pokorny receives the girls’ honor after she just completed her fifth-grade year at West Elementary School. She plays on the Big Sky Reclamation team in the Copper City Softball 12U league.

Coach Fantini and Coach Schad say that Brynn is a great teammate and always has a positive attitude. She is consistent at batting, always coming through when the hits are needed the most.

Pokorny is also a solid second baseman, and the coaches say she is a joy to have on the team.

Cunningham takes home the boys honor following a week in which the Butte Muckers went 5-0, with four convincing wins.

The Muckers beat the Helena Independents Wednesday in Butte, pounded the Bitterroot Red Sox B in a twin bill and then went to Helena for two more wins over the Independents.

Cunningham played in four of the five games, going 9 for 17 with a triple, double and 11 runs batted in. All of that came as he batted leadoff. He also pitched seven solid innings as the Muckers edged Helena in the scheduled nine-inning game in Butte.

On the season, the soon-to-be sophomore at Butte High is batting .515 with 16 RBIs.

For the third year, Leskovar Honda, home of the 20-year, 200,000-mile warranty, is teaming up with the ButteCast to honor the finest student-athletes from the Mining City to encourage more children to get up, get out and try all kinds of sports and activities.
