The Butte Eagles Special Olympics basketball team members are this week’s Leskovar Honda Athletes of the Week.

They earned the honors by placing second in the unified division of the Special Olympics State Basketball tournament, which was held Nov. 6 through Nov. 8 in Helena. The Butte team fell on a buzzer beater in their final game.

The Eagles did not have enough Special Olympians, so coach John Stenson and Krystina McLure played as unified players alongside Special Olympians Zach Steson, Dalen Dagen, Tristan Grogan and Kallie Robbins. Gary Robbins helped coach the team, and Jerica Hamberg served as the team’s scorekeeper.

Like always, the Eagles represented the Mining City with class, epitomizing everything that is great about the Special Olympics. The team is looking forward to having a full squad together when the tournament moves back to Butte next November.

The team, by the way, rode to Helena in a rental van donated by Leskovar Honda.

For the third year, Leskovar Honda, home of the non-commission sales staff that always has your back, is teaming up with the ButteCast to honor the finest student-athletes from the Mining City to encourage more children to get up, get out and try all kinds of sports and activities.
