The Notorious D.I.G. club volleyball team and Butte baseball player Wyatt Garrels are this week’s Leskovar Honda Athletes of the Week.

The Notorious D.I.G. players take home the girls’ honor after winning their division at the Phoenix Volleyball Festival.

The team faced adversity before the tournament even began when Ava Kuchtyn broke her ankle. Izzy Pestel stepped in to replace Kuchyton, joining a team she’d never played with before.

The entire roster made up of 13-year-old girls competed in the 14U division. The team did not give up after an early adjustment period. Instead, they trusted one another, kept believing, and they found their rhythm when it mattered most.

Notorious D.I.G. went undefeated in bracket play to earn the first-place finish. Their resilience, determination and teamwork were on full display as they earned this incredible accomplishment.

In addition to Kuchtyn and Pestel, the team is made up of AJ Osborne, Kaylee McDaniel, Charlie Erickson, Mia Schell, Jayna Schafer, Wylie Schafer and Kadence Warner.

The team is coached by Kat Osborn. She is assisted by Alexa Berg and Ashlyn McDaniel.

Garrels receives the boys’ honor after striking out 13 batters to lead his Moonshot junior/senior team to a 10-3 victory over Anaconda. He allowed three hits over five and one third innings.

On top of Wyatt being great on the mound, he is rocking a .667 batting average for the Moonshot team. He carries a .800 on-base percentage, and he has been stealing bases at a 94 percent clip.

Coaches say Wyatt is a great teammate on the field and in the dugout. This season he is playing on the same team with his younger brother, Morgan.

Since the beginning of 2023, Leskovar Honda, home of the non-commission sales staff that always has your back, has teamed up with the ButteCast to honor the finest student-athletes from the Mining City to encourage more children to get up, get out and try all kinds of sports and activities.
