The National Federation of State High School Association (NFHS) Officials of the Year for Montana were released to the media today, and the list included a Butte official.

Jack Hocking was named the Official of the Year for baseball.

Brian Michelotti, the Executive Director of the Montana High School Association and Commissioner of the Montana Officials Association (MOA), announced the awards.

Nominees for this award must exemplify the highest standards of ethical conduct, moral character and carry the endorsement of their respective state high school associations, according to the NFHS.  The NFHS Officials’ Association annually recognizes officials in each state for the commitment they make to young people who participate in activities throughout the country. 

In addition to baseball, Hocking officiates basketball and football. He has also officiated softball and lacrosse.

Rock Rayl of Great Falls was named the Montana Official of the Year. All the Montana award winners follow:

Girls Basketball: Lonnie Swigart — Sidney

Football: Joe McElmurry — Libby

Boys Soccer: Mike Karl — Bozeman

Girls Soccer: Jeremy Hill — Great Falls

Softball: Wayne Wade — Missoula

Volleyball: Jared Delaney — Park City

Wrestling – Girls & Boys: Michael Leinwand — Havre
