Beau McGree third, Cohen Stajcar 10th

BIGFORK — Thursday was a good day for the Butte Central golf team, as three players cracked the top 10 in the Bigfork Invitational at the Eagle Bend Golf Club.

Freshman Mya McGree led the way with the first victory of her career. McGree, who qualified for the Class A State tournament as an eighth grader, fired an 8-over-par 80 to claim medalist honors on the girls’ side.

She beat second-place Evelynn Driskell of Stevensville by seven shots. Keegan Campbell of Bigfork shot a 91 for third place.

Corvallis won the girls’ team title at 381. Frenchtown placed second at 405, and Bigfork finished third at 416,

Beau McGree, a BC junior who earned All-State honors last fall, placed third on the boys’ leaderboard with a 76. Brayden Garr of Frenchtown took medalist honors at 74, finishing one shot better than Corvallis’ Dylan Wirt.

Nick Schmidt-Sommer of Whitefish placed fourth at 78, and four golfers tied for fifth at 79.

Cohen Stajcar had the best showing of his career. The Butte Central sophomore fired an 82 to placed 10th overall.

Corvallis won the team title at 328. Whitefish and Ronan tied for second at 337, and Frenchtown and Stevensville tied for fourth at 358. The Maroons finished sixth at 361.

Also for the Maroons, Ganon Button shot a 101, and Connor Kachmarik shot a 102. The tournament saw 71 boys and 38 girls compete at one of the premier courses in the state.

The Maroons will head back to Northwestern Montana Tuesday when they play in the Polson Invitational. BC will then play at the Butte High Invitational Sept. 17-18.
