Butte Central football player Noah Sutton and Butte High cross country runner Sophia Houchin are this week’s Leskovar Honda Athletes of the Week.

The honors come after the two sophomores put up memorable performances.

Sutton, a 5-10, 160-pound quarterback, takes home the boys’ honor after leading the Maroons to a 54-0 Homecoming win over Ronan on Montana Tech’s Bob Green Field.

Sutton completed 15 of 17 passes for 247 yards and six touchdowns in the win. The six scores broke the BC school record of five passing TDs. That is a record that was shared by seven BC passers.

The left-handed quarterback started the big day by hitting his brother, Joshua, for a 67-yard touchdown. He also tossed to TDs to GG Fantini, two scores to Henly Mansanti and one more to his brother.

Houchin takes the girls’ award after leading the Butte High cross country team at the Bozeman Invitational Saturday at the Bridger Creek Golf Course. She placed 68th out of 208 in the 5-kilometer race with a time of 20 minutes, 49 seconds.

The time wasn’t as fast as her 5K school-record of 19:16 that she ran last year in. It wasn’t as fast as she ran at the State meet as a freshman or an eighth grader. But the fact that she was running again was a big win for the Bulldogs.

Houchin has been dealing with a hip injury since track, and she has been working hard to get back. Saturday’s run marked the first race she finished this season, and she still has plenty of time to get ready for her third State meet.

Since the beginning of 2023, Leskovar Honda, home of the non-commission sales staff that always has your back, has teamed up with the ButteCast to honor the finest student-athletes from the Mining City to encourage more children to get up, get out and try all kinds of sports and activities.
