Butte Central volleyball players Rylee Forbes and Presli Smith and Butte High football players Bradey Doyle and Finn Wortham are this week’s Leskovar Honda Athletes of the Week.
Forbes and Smith share the girls’ honor after helping lead Butte Central on a late-season run that fell one match shy of a berth in the Western A Divisional tournament. The season included BC’s first conference wins in four years and the first play-in victory for the Maroons since 2022.
BC’s two seniors had a lot to do with that. Forbes is 6-foot-1 middle blocker, and Smith is a 5-5 setter.
“These two gave us everything they had this year,” BC coach Karina Mickelson said. “Getting that first conference win — and not just one, but two — in over four years was a huge milestone, and Presli and Rylee were right at the center of it. It’s always tough when the season ends, but I am just incredibly proud of them. They helped push this program in the right direction, and they 100 percent deserve this recognition.”
Forbes led the team 56 kills on the season, while Smith set 85 assists for the Maroons.
Doyle and Wortham share the boys’ accolades after a strong season on the Bulldog defense. The seniors were a huge part of Butte High’s late-season run to the playoffs.
In addition to handling the place-kicking duties, the 5-7, 165-pound Doyle ranked fourth on the team with 42 total tackles in the regular season. He led the team with three sacks, and he blocked a punt, scooped the ball and scored a touchdown in a big win over Missoula Hellgate.
The 5-8, 170-pound Wortham proved that his strong junior season was no fluke by taking his game to a new level for his senior campaign. In doing so, Wortham proved to be one of the top linebackers in the state.
Wortham’s 78 total tackles led the Bulldogs on the season. That total includes 50 solo takedowns while playing in the heart of the Butte High defense.
Since the beginning of 2023, Leskovar Honda, home of the non-commission sales staff that always has your back, has teamed up with the ButteCast to honor the finest student-athletes from the Mining City to encourage more children to get up, get out and try all kinds of sports and activities.
