Shawn Wetzel moved to Butte about a year and a half ago.

At 5 feet, 20 inches, as he says, he really stands out in a crowd. It is not the height of “Uncle Wetzel” that gets everyone’s attention, however. It is his chill attitude, his story telling and his funny lines.

Click here to listen in as Wetzel talks about his famous grandfather, Walter “Blackie” Wetzel, and the national media hitting up everybody with the last name Wetzel to comment about the NFL football team in Washington, D.C. dropping the name Redskins.

He talks about being a sixth-generation Montanan. He talks about growing up in Browning and having another nine million addresses before finally settling in on the Mining City. He talks about serving as a Butte High assistant boys’ basketball coach under Matt Luedtke.

“Uncle Wetzel” truly is the unofficial mayor of Montana.

Wetzel discusses the photos below, which feature his grandfather, in this podcast.
