A familiar last name will lead the Butte High boys’ basketball program.

Noah Thatcher has been hired to replace Matt Luedtke as the leader of the Bulldogs, the school announced today. Luedtke stepped down in March after a successful seven-year run with Butte High. He took a team to the Class AA State tournament five times in that span.

Thatcher, who previously served as an assistant under Luedtke, is the son of John Thatcher, who guided the Bulldogs from the 2000-01 season through the 2009-2010 campaign. He took the Bulldogs to the Class AA State championship game in 2004 and 2007.

Noah Thatcher moved to Butte as a senior and played point guard for the Bulldogs during the 2000-01 season.

“Butte High School is excited to provide the opportunity for Thatcher to lead the Bulldog basketball program,” the Bulldog athletic department said in a statement. “Noah is a well-respected member of our community and has been preparing for this opportunity to lead an athletic program.”

Thatcher will be a guest on the ButteCast in the near future.
