GREGSON — An Anaconda Copperhead ran to first place at the Butte Central Invitational cross country meet Tuesday evening at Fairmont Hot Springs. (Results)

Anaconda sophomore Gage Novak finished the 5-kilometer race on the golf course in 18 minutes, 17 seconds for the victory on the boys’ side. Will Normandeau ran to second place at 18:56, finishing 4-seconds ahead of third-place Matiya Nenemay of Ronan.

Butte Central eighth grader Ryan Byrne placed 10th overall at 21:20. The race saw 31 boys and 22 girls cross the finish line.

BC senior Joe Bradshaw finished 15th in 22:28, and Maroon freshman Roman Terry crossed in 25:42. Freshman David Schulte ran for the Maroons, finishing in 38:10.

Ronan won the team title with 26 points. Anaconda finished second at 48, and Frenchtown placed third at 54.

The girls’ race came down to a photo finish between a pair of Frenchtown runners. Savannah Langley finished in 23:13.0 to beat teammate Hattie DesRosier by a nose. Des Rosier’s official time was 23:13.2.

Persephone Cox of Frenchtown placed third at 23:47. Aliyah Homen of Seeley-Swan took fourth at 23:55, Lanaeya Eppinett of Ronan ran to fifth at 24:36, and Anaconda’s Jayda Cornelius took sixth in 24:36.

Butte Central sophomore Ashley White took 10th in 25:20.

Frenchtown won the girls’ team title with 19 points. Ronan was second at 50, followed by Anaconda at 59.

The Butte Central runners will be back in action Thursday when they compete in the Harrison Invitational in Pony.
