Friday night was not a great one for the Butte High and Butte Central football teams. Both lost conference games on the road. Both teams, though, went down fighting.
Butte High fell 14-6 to Missoula Sentinel at Washington-Grizzly Stadium. (Stats)
The Maroons dropped a 25-20 decision at Corvallis.
Tucker Laslovich, Sentinel’s senior quarterback with Mining City roots, ran for 156 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead the Spartans. He scored on a 7-yard run in the first quarter before making it a 14-0 game with a 1-yard plunge late in the fourth.
Raeder Grey hit Ryan Bache for a 10-yard scoring strike with 1 minute, 9 seconds left in the game. Tristan Gaff blocked the kick.
Kaden Thennis added 102 yards on the ground for the Spartans, who improved to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in Western AA play.
Grey passed for 136 yards. He ran for 78. Miner Lee added 78 yards rushing for Butte High, which fell to 1-4 and 0-3).
Bache caught four passes for 96 yards. Brady Walsh grabbed two passes.
Finn Wortham was credited with a team-best 11 tackles for the Bulldogs. Hudson Steele got in on nine, and Even McEwan added six takedowns. Reece Cunneen and Maxximus Pearston got in on four tackles, and Jaeger Hansen and Lee each got in on four.
The Bulldogs will play at Helena High next Friday. They return home Oct. 9 to take on Flathead.
The Maroons took a 7-6 lead over the Blue Devils with 4:41 left in the first half. Noah Sutton hit Jaxon Hiatt for a 10-yard score.
That lead, though, did not last long. Corvallis answered with a score on the next drive, capped by a touchdown run by quarterback Branson Bucholz.
The Maroons and Blue Devils traded punches in the second half. BC got a 4-yard run by Henly Mansanti. Then, Sutton hit GG Fantini for a 32yard touchdown with 1:13 to go in the game, cutting Corvallis’ lead to 25-20.
The Blue Devils converted on a fourth-and-1 with 43 seconds left to lock up the win.
