Beau ties for second, Mya seventh
POLSON — Beau and Mya McGree are heading back to the Class A State golf tournament.
The Butte Central siblings qualified for the tournament, which is next Friday and Saturday in Shelby, during Saturday’s Western A Divisional tournament at the Polson Bay Golf Course. Both will be playing at State for the second straight season.
Beau McGree, a junior who earned All-State honors last fall, tied for second place on the boys’ leaderboard with a 4-over-par 76.
Polson star Max Milton fired a 7-under 65 on his home course to win medalist honors. McGree tied with Dylan Wirt of Corvallis and Brayden Gall of Frenchtown. Mason O’Neil of Whitefish placed fifth at 77.
Polson won the team title, shooting 303. Whitefish took second at 313, and Corvallis finished third at 332.
Butte Central placed ninth at 359.
Connor Kachmarik shot an 84 for the Maroons. Cohen Stajcar carded a 98, and Ganon Button shot 101. Only McGree advances for the BC boys.
Mya McGree, a freshman who played at State as an eighth grader, shot an 88 to place seventh in the girls’ race. Cameron Burnett of Hamilton ran away with medalist honors at 74. Karlee Brown and Ryhlee Scott of Whitefish were next at 82 and 83.
Keegan Campbell of Bigfork placed fourth at 85, and Dillon’s Skylar LaPierre took fifth at 86.
Whitefish won the team title at 371, beating host Polson by six shots. Hamilton placed third at 392.
Mya McGree is the long girl playing for the Maroons.
