Maroons ran Thursday in Hamilton

THREE FORKS — Even without their usual fastest boy and girl, the Butte High cross country teams put up some impressive times Friday at the Headwaters Invitational. (Results)

However, they were not the only team that could say that.

The Belgrade boys and girls swept team titles on a fast course on the Headwaters Golf Course.

Dawson Parke of Drummond won the boys’ race, finishing the 5-kilometer course in 16 minutes, 18 seconds. He edged Ember Hunt of Whitehall by 2 seconds.

Trent Lane of Cascade placed third in 16:33.

Gage Novak, an Anaconda sophomore with Mining City roots, placed 15th with a personal-best time of 17:37.

Junior Isaac Zell paced the Bulldogs, who were without injured Bridger Luebke. Zell placed 17th with a season-best time of 17:46.

Zell was one of four Bulldogs to break 19 minutes on the day. Colton Yoakum crossed in 18:18, edging teammate Jason Real by 1 second. Kai Schuler finished in 18:35.

Butte’s Jack Taylor crossed in 19:20, and Lyric Haston finished in 19:42.

Belgrade scored 63 team points for the win. Drummond took second at 89, and Jefferson High of Boulder finished third at 119. The Bulldogs ran to seventh place at 187.

The Panthers scored 31 points for the girls’ win. Jefferson was second at 57, followed by Townsend at 83.

Kyla Meissner of Townsend won the individual title in 18:36. Savannah Allen of Belgrade took second in 18:48. Teammate Amelia Brown was third in 19:27.

Penelope Luebke led the Bulldogs, placing 15th in 21:20. Teammate Wakely Burelson finished in 22:50. Sophia Houchin did not compete for Butte High.

Butte Central, meanwhile, competed in the Hamilton Invitational on Thursday. (Results)

Ben Martin of Darby won the boys’ race in 16:05. Jackson Bontadelli of Polson took second in 16:20, and Anze Vaux Witt of Missoula Sentinel crossed in 16:27, edging Jeremy Davidson of Corvallis by a little more than a second.

Three BC runners competed. Eighth grader Ryan Byrne led the way with a time of 20:19. Joe Bradshaw crossed in 20:57, and Roman Terry clocked a time of 22:35.

On the girls’ side, Polson Morgan and Quinn Delaney finished 1-2. Morgan posted a time of 17:57, and Quinn finished in 18:20.

Aleigha Child of Hamilton took third in 18:37.

Ashley White led the Maroons. She crossed in 23:45. Lionnora Howard finished in 29:58.

Next up for the Bulldogs and Maroons is Thursday’s Capital City 7 of 7 meet in Helena.
