Today’s guest is one I have been hoping to land for a couple of years now. He is interesting, to say the least.
Roy Ivy is a fellow Gen Xer who grew up in Texas and traveled around the world in a band before making his way to the Mining City. That came after stops in Chicago, where he played music, wrote movie reviews and took part in the improv scene, and Missoula.
On Sept. 9, 2001, Roy traveled to New York City to visit his girlfriend. On the morning of Sept. 11, he got off at a Subway stop in Times Square to find out our nation was under attack.
What he did after that … well … you will have to listen to Roy describe it.
His experience on that fateful day is unlike any you have ever heard before, and he sings about in one of his songs. You can hear that song in this episode. It is one of three he plays at the end. You can also see Roy’s only show of 2026 on Friday, Sept. 11 from 8 to 10 p.m. at the Helsinki Bar.
He planned the show to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Listen in to this episode to see that you definitely want to be there. You will laugh, you will cry, and you will probably sing along.
